Don’t you love the innocence of little children? So did Jesus!

While working for an organization that delivers lunches to elderly shut-ins, I used to take my 4-year-old daughter on my afternoon rounds. She was unfailingly intrigued by the various appliances of old age, particularly the canes, walkers and wheelchairs. One day I found her staring at a pair of false teeth soaking in a glass. As I braced myself for the inevitable barrage of questions, she merely turned and whispered, ‘The tooth fairy will never believe this!’

Some people find it hard to believe in God. Probably because God would have to be good and they see the disparity between this god and real life. But the truth is, they simply don’t understand that it is this very disparity that shows the magnitude of His love. “Real” life is broken and botched. We are broken and botched. We did it to ourselves. Yet, God has continued to love us through it all. If it wasn’t for our brokenness, we wouldn’t need Jesus. There is a reason He is called “Savior”. We need saved. God wants to “save” you by changing you from the inside out. The Apostle John put it very succinctly when he explained the magnitude of God’s love in chapter 3, verse 16. “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son…” That says it all. He “Really” does love you! Your life will be changed if you can believe it!

Last night I took my grandson to the park. We had a blast. We stayed until it was almost dark. Then we came home and he hit me in the eye with a whistle. Man, it hurt! Of course he was disciplined but very quickly forgiven. He is three years old and is just now learning acceptable and non-acceptable behaviors. But what about people who are “adults” and do the same thing. One moment they think you’re the bee’s knees and the next they tear you apart with their tongue. James was right when he said that it (the tongue) was sharper than a two-edged sword. A balanced life is all part of growing up. So, no matter how old you are, if you haven’t done it yet – GROW UP! Others will be glad you did.

Blessings As You Grow,

Once in awhile we just need to be reminded how awesome God is. We can easily get caught up in “small thinking” by adjusting to the confines of our offices, or home or even other people’s thinking. It may be different for everyone, but we all need a place where we can go to be reminded of God’s power and authority. For me, this place is the beach. The ocean extends farther than I can see and holds mysteries that I cannot even fathom. Yet, God created it and all that it holds. It reminds me once again that He is in control and able to control what He possesses. I’m in your hands Lord.

Yesterday was a very productive day. But trying to figure out what it all meant in the scheme of things is kind of hard. I took the day off to get some needed rest. Then I began this “restful” day with my grandson, Kaden, whom I babysat. While he played I was able to get started on the tedious task of adding receipts for the tax year that is headed our way like a freight train. Then it was off to Mcdonalds, then the park. After a 45 minute nap, not mine unfortuneately, it was back to the taxes. Then dinner and finally rest. I thought. Allyson wanted to have a family night out. By this time it was 9:00 pm. We all jumped into the car and went to shoot some pool. I was tired but we all had fun. I almost forgot. Before the family night out was 30 minutes of cardio. I can’t afford to miss that. Finally to bed. I stuck my earbuds in my ears and prayed for a few moments before turning the mp3 on. As I lay there listening to Scripture from Acts, I found the real meaning of it all. Everything that preceded my time with God was a result of His love and blessings in my life. But now I was listening to the “why”. It was pretty simple, really. He loves me. After a “thanks for the great day, Lord” I was off to sleep only to wake up refreshed this morning and ready to start all over again. I guess the point of all this is that we need, no, must, stop at the well and be refreshed (daily) if we’re going to get from life and be in life all that God intended for us. Just some thoughts.
